A Message from Our Chairman and CEO
We exceed many of the goals we set for ourselves because we have the right people to overcome any challenge. They’re the ones building relationships with our customers, working in our communities and doing the right things to move us forward.
Together, we’re entering the third year of a pandemic that’s exhausted and exasperated us, in many ways. But it’s also caused us to be resilient and redefine what matters most. We’re continuing to find the best ways to live our lives while protecting ourselves and those we love. Thanks to vaccinations, wearing masks and following other health protocols, we’ve been able to create an environment as safe as possible for our people, while continuing to serve our customers. We’ve also changed many of the ways we do business, by accelerating and adapting to a digital transformation that’s critical in today’s environment.
Our businesses were able to accomplish a lot last year. Cox Communications continued our work of connecting people to the things they care about most with our acquisition of Segra’s commercial business. This allows us to expand our services across nine states in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Cox Communications also welcomed a new president in Mark Greatrex. Mark has a long history of success and I'm excited to see how he leads this part of our business into the future.
Under the leadership of President Steve Rowley, Cox Automotive was busy as well with acquisitions of Dickinson Fleet Services, Fyusion, Codeweavers, Fleetmaster in Belgium and Spiers New Technologies. We also launched Esntial Commerce, a vehicle retailing platform for online car buying. From electric vehicles to new ways of buying cars, there are so many exciting opportunities happening in the automotive industry over the next few years. I’m proud we’ll play a role in helping lead this evolution.
At Cox Enterprises we launched 34 By 34, our ambitious goal to empower 34 million people to live more prosperous lives by 2034. This is about increasing our positive impact on society and part of our work to solve the most pressing problems of our time. Along those same lines, we also continued building our Cox Cleantech business with the acquisitions of BrightFarms and Nexus Circular. Both are part of our dedication to address sustainability challenges, while also growing and diversifying our company.
As we look to the future, there are so many opportunities to explore. We’re excited about leading the charge to bring them to life. We’ll do this by continuing to be a force for good in the world and helping build a better future for the next generation. Despite the challenges we face, it’s an exciting time at Cox, and an exciting time for all of us.
