Chairman’s Challenge
Chairman Emeritus Jim Kennedy started the Chairman’s Challenge in 2012 to recognize those who lead and contribute substantially to our Cox Conserves goals. The Chairman’s Challenge is an opportunity for employees to think differently about the environment and align with our Cox Conserves goals to be zero waste to landfill by 2024 and carbon and water neutral by 2034.
For the first time as Chairman and CEO, Alex Taylor spearheaded the 10th Chairman’s Challenge in 2022 and called on Cox employees to calculate their carbon footprint and find ways to reduce it. Carbon is the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitter and by reducing it, we can help slow climate change.
Employees participated in a month-long series of events and activities, earning points for their actions. Six employee winners worked with the James M. Cox Foundation to contribute $52,500 to environmental nonprofits of their choice.
This contribution adds to the more than $1 billion Cox Enterprises has invested in sustainable businesses and technologies since 2007. The James M. Cox Foundation has donated more than $70 million to environmental and conservation causes since 2011.
